Today’s paddle came with a surprise visit from my favorite harbor seal—who I’m pretty sure has been keeping an eye on me for weeks near the tombolo in Squamish Harbor. Usually, it’s the classic “stare and look away” routine, but today was different: as I glided by, the seal lifted its nose in the air several times and locked eyes with me the whole way. I like to think it was wishing me good luck for the upcoming race… or maybe just showing off some attitude! Either way, it made my day out on the water even more memorable.
